Strolling about in Hendersonville, NC

Greetings from The Perch! One of our days last week was spent in Hendersonville, which is only a few miles from Saluda. It is a bigger town than Saluda, with several great shops and places to eat. As a matter of fact, before I met my husband I was exploring trying to find a job up there and moving then from Florida. When I later took my job transfer to NC, I thought that Hendersonville would be where I would ultimately retire, but did not end up doing that. Here are some of the photos that I took the day we went there.

A couple of the storefronts...

Street-side dining...

Flowers growing everywhere...

...even hanging from posts...

I couldn't resist snapping a couple of this little
guy...

...he was so sleepy you'd think that he was the one
pulling the carriage!!

And no, you are not actually visiting a travel blog! As always, thanks for putting up with me!

In a forthcoming post I will tell you about a few things that we bought, not to mention one large item that would not fit in the motor home, so we had to leave it behind. And no, it is not the above horse and carriage! (HINT: It has to do with how much we like this area.)

In Historic Saluda, NC

Good morning! I'm finally catching up on my return-from-the-trip chores, and thought I would post a few more photos taken up in Saluda, NC. It is a very small town and just plain fun!

Some shops in the town...

Saluda Grade Cafe...

Pace General store.
This is a working general store that has been there
for years. We bought some great locally-processed
corn relish and salad dressing, along with some
modern-day cleaning products.
Following are several pictures of the inside.
You may have to click to enlarge these so that you
can see all of the vintage overhead displays...

A photo that I took of the surrounding area on the
way back to the campground...

I hope you enjoyed the visit. Do stop by again!

Visiting the art store, Random Arts, in Saluda, NC

Hello friends! We are home now. I battled Internet connectivity up there right up until the time we left, so I finally gave up on trying to post to this blog. In the next few days I will share a little more of our trip.

As promised, here are some of the other photos that I took last week in Random Arts. There is certainly quite a stash of items to choose from!

You can buy all kinds of vintage things,
along with various products.
It's sort of like Etsy...anything that you
can use in mixed media art...

Where the classes are taught...

Information on, and samples of,
upcoming workshops...

More great stuff...

She also sells great clothing...

...and more great stuff...

I forgot to take a photo of the kitchen, which is so cool. Visiting artists each decorated one of the cabinet doors!

Here are a few things that I bought...

...along with a great old book published in 1897.
I will share some of the beautiful prints with
you in the near future...

Don't you just want to take a trip to Saluda and visit Random Arts? If not, at least visit the site here!

I hope that you're having a great weekend. Thanks for coming by.

The mountains of western North Carolina

Hello friends. We are up here in the mountains. Our campground is a way's up from the little town of Saluda, which is in western NC, just a few miles from the SC border, and our Internet connectivity is sketchy as best, so I will make this quick as we never know when we're going to lose connection.

Where we are staying...

Flowers growing along the road in downtown Saluda...

Some shots of an area maintained by the
local garden club...

I started coming up here years ago with my friend Mary. She and her hubby own a cabin not far from here, and once a year, when I still lived in Florida, we would have a "girls' art week in the mountains". We always went to a great mixed media art store called Random Arts, and this is how I became familiar with Saluda, which is a tiny little mountain town with some sweet shops.

Some photos of Random Arts,
which is located in an old house...

The front porch...

I love the front door...

And, most importantly, Jane,
the owner...

I will share more photos of the inside the next time I am able to post. I hope you have a great evening!

Going on vacation!

We are headed off on vacation to spend a week camping in the mountains!
I will try posting while I am gone,
but that will depend on the Internet availability!
If you don't hear from me soon,
you know why!
Have a great week!!
