Valentine's Day and a German Pancake

Happy Valentine's Day!

In honor of this special day of love,
I thought I would share a scan
of this vintage sheet music that I have.
Use as you wish in your artwork!

The other day I took a trip over to World Market.
I love puttering about in their food (and wine!) section
because you see so many things that you don't
see elsewhere.
I am not a big pancake person
(as in the big thick things that you get
in most restaurants).
I would much rather eat French crepes
or nice puffy German pancakes
(perhaps because I am of
French and German descent),
so imagine my excitement when
I saw THIS...

Once box makes two batches,
with one batch being one large pancake
baked in the oven in a cast iron pan
at 450 degrees,
and coming out looking like this...

Served with fresh blueberries
and powdered sugar...

...and a side of breakfast sausages,
it made for a delicious Valentine's
breakfast today.
And the best part?
Mr. Perch did the dishes!

We will go out to dinner tonight with family members.
This day is special for us,
because we got engaged seven
years ago today.

Do you have any special plans for today?

Keep love in your heart!

A Valentine's Wish

Hello dearest friends. I hope that you are having a wonderful holiday. Do you have any special plans? Hubby and are going to our favorite local Italian restaurant tonight. We got engaged there six years ago today!

In honor of this day I couldn't resist sharing with you one of my vintage Valentine's Day wedding photos. I got it for a good price due to the stain on the bottom, but we can certainly work around that! Scan and use as you wish.

Isn't this a lovely couple.
I wonder what became of them.
I hope that they had a fine family
and lived happy and healthy lives...

A few days ago, while I was making lunch, UPS delivered a package (or was it FedEx...can't remember now),and much to my pleasant surprise, it was an early Valentine's gift from Mr. Perch. He said it was supposed to come yesterday, but trust me when I say, getting it early was not a problem.

He saw this company advertised on TV,
and I'm happy that he decided to give them a try...

Beautiful huge, and I mean HUGE,
chocolate covered strawberries.
One of them is a meal in itself...

The instructions suggested that they be consumed within
48 hours.
Really?
No problem for moi!
Absolutely delicious!

Mine is just the sweetest guy!

Some birthday tags, and "starry" fruit salad...

Hello friends! I hope that you had a great holiday weekend. Ours was pretty nice.

My husband's family is visiting from Massachusetts and Florida this week, so his one sister decided to have a group birthday party. It was not actually any one's birthday, but she decided that since they are never together to celebrate birthdays, and it is so rare that the five of them are together at all, we would have an (UN)birthday celebration, so to speak. His one sister down the road had a cook-out at her house, and we brought cards for all.

Here are some that I made for the occasion. They were not actually cards, but hang tags that they could display anywhere.

I couldn't resist doing some beach art,
and used some of the vintage photos that I have been
accumulating.
You may notice that the one on the right in the photo below
is one of the photos on my blog's sidebar...

His sisters got the beach ones...

...and I made this one for his brother.
I think that this is an old photo of
kids at a masquerade party...

We all brought something to eat,
so I made fruit salad,
and couldn't resist cutting some watermelon
stars in honor of the holiday...

Watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries,
along with a few mint leaves.
Yum...

I hope that you got to do something great too! Have a nice day!

Celebrate (a wonderful magazine)...

Hello and happy Monday! Yesterday it was Columbus Day here, but you'd never have known...kids in school, with teachers and many other people still having to work. Things were certainly different when I was growing up, but we won't talk about exactly when that was!

I also hope that my Canadian friends had a happy Thanksgiving. I hope that you all had a great day and ate lots of good food. I hope that your Thanksgiving gets more fanfare than the American version, which seems to get sandwiched between Halloween and Christmas, never getting the recognition that it rightfully deserves. At least not in stores.

Not only do I love Halloween and Thanksgiving, but I also love the seasonal decor that goes along with it. As I stated in my post of the other day, not everyone, and certainly not I, can afford to buy all new decorations every season, but beautiful magazines help us live our dreams, and one that always helps me do this is "Celebrate". If you haven't seen the September/October issue yet, which should still be on newsstands, it is worth a look. I actually received this one right before my computer went wonky and had scanned these photos of some of the pages for you, so I will share them now. Sorry I am a little late, but I am not yet ready to look at Christmas decor, are you? Phyllis Hoffman DePiano is the Editor-in-Chief of this publication, and is also responsible for Victoria magazine and some others.

Beautiful decor...

Wonderful recipes...

Party planning ideas...

And the best part, very little advertising!

What's inspiring you today? Whatever it is, I hope it's great!

Happy Birthday Miss Phoebe...one year of posting!

I can't believe it!
One year ago today I created this blog.
Thanks for keeping up with me.
Miss Phoebe wants to share some special favorites from her collection.
Right click and save to use as you wish!

A beautiful print of a mother and daughter.
I love these old lithographs.
The color and detail are just not something
that you find today...

I just love old typography.
So here is the cover from
Metcalf's Language Series:
Spelling and Language Book
Published in NY and Chicago
1887...

...and a page from within...

...along with the cover from
Hill's Manual of Social and Business Forms.
Published in Chicago in 1881.
From the days when penmanship
was not a dying art.
If you want 400 pages of typographical bliss,
find a copy on eBay.
You won't regret it!...

...and some pages from within...

I love vintage flapper photos.
They are easy to find now because dealers are currently finding them in
estate sales of folks that have recently passed away,
since this was the era in which many of them lived.
How about this little photo booth flapper child?...

...and of course, my current favorite,
little ballerinas...

Of course, I will always love old cabinet cards.
Especially, sisters such as these...

I hope you enjoy these! Have a wonderful day.

Love, weddings, anniversaries and vintage photos...

Good morning friends. Love is in the air today. I feel it in this quote...

I feel it in these beautiful vintage wedding photos, which I have just begun to collect.
Don't you love this one...

Here is a closeup of the bride. I love her
head wear...

The seller of another threw this one in for free.
A nice fifties wedding...

...with a closeup of the happy couple...

I love this one, which looks like it might
be from the twenties or thirties...

A closeup of the bride and groom.
Don't you just love their expressions?
I wonder what they were thinking...

This is my favorite.
I love the bride and her two beautiful
flower girls...

...and a closeup of their faces and big bows...

I love photos showing large wedding parties.
This one was very inexpensive because there was
some damage to the photo to the ring-bearer's face,
the little boy on the bottom right.
But I love it anyway...

...and a closeup of the beautiful
bride and groom...

Most of the above were too large to fit on my scanner bed,
but the following was smaller, so I scanned it for you.
Save and use as you wish...

And the "vintage" couple below,
shown with their flower girl?

Why it's US!
This picture was taken four years ago today
at our home
on OUR wedding day!
The flower girl is my granddaughter, Jordyn.

We are going out to dinner and a movie this evening to continue the celebration, which had started with the Outer Banks trip. I hope that you're having a great day!
