A New Magazine: Living the Country Life

Hello! A couple of weeks ago I found this premier issue of a new magazine in a local supermarket. I meant to share a glimpse of it with you, but forgot about it until I picked it up to read it today. In case you haven't yet seen it, take a peek!

A cover that draws you in...

Nice articles...

Gardening...

Recipes...

Beautiful photos...

Farmhouse decorating...

Featured homes...

What it didn't have, though, were tons of advertisements. As a matter of fact, there were only a few pages worth. Boo-hoo! It appears that this magazine will be published twice per year. I will certainly hold my breath for the next issue.

Have you discovered any new mags lately?

Thanks for coming by!

Whites: A Magazine and a Mantel

Hello! Well, we survived last night's storms. After our area received an actual tornado warning around dinner time, we grabbed the cats and holed up in Hubby's closet for about 40 minutes. His is the one spot in this house that is away from windows and outer walls. When all was clear we ventured out and today we only had some branches and pine cones strewn about the yard, so we won't complain. My heart goes out to those in the areas that were not quite as lucky.

When we knew yesterday morning that we were in for some stormy weather, I picked up some foodstuff on our way back from breakfast. I also picked up a great magazine, and thought I would share a few glimpses of it with you.

This is the magazine.
(Ignore all my sticky notes,
and pardon the bad photos.
Good lighting was not
to be found!)
Can you guess why I bought it?

All kinds of articles about white decor.
The creamware featured in this article was gorgeous...

This was about a lovely shop in
Birmingham, AL
that featured beautiful wares in white...

This owner used a lot of neutrals
with a touch of black.
I loved the rustic ceiling beam
that kept everything from looking
too sterile...

This stove is gorgeous,
and was in my idea of a dream kitchen.
White shaker cabinets,
marble counter tops,
and wood floors.
I wouldn't personally put spices in that
drawer under the stove though,
as spices should be kept cool.
Perhaps this designer or owner does
not like to cook!...

And this glimpse is from the old family home
of Terry John Woods,
who is an artist and designer.
Not too long ago I bought two of his
recent books about modern
farmhouse decorating, but
I started following him in Country Living
in his early
folk art days when his home was
decorated in a primitive fashion.
Over the years, his home
has evolved to a pale and whitewashed
look, which of course, I love...

And this gal had something I always say that I will one day start,
namely a moon garden.
I love all of these white flowers...

...and the bouquets that she makes with them.
Gee...I wonder why I bought some
moon flower seeds today?...

And who could not love snowdrops?
They start to pop up early,
and often right through the snow.
What could be bad about that?
I have never seen any for sale in this area,
though I have seen the bulbs for
sale in mail order catalogs.
Must try them some time!...

And now for reality instead of fantasy.
Last week I was tired of looking at our
rather barren (after the holidays) mantel,
and did some late winter
or early spring
(depending on whether you consider
your cup half empty or half full)
decorating of it.
I went for a clean and fresh look,
finally getting to hang up our new
goat picture.
Actually, I found Mr. Billy
on-line awhile ago,
long before we ever reworked the fireplace.
I love goats!...

I also used some faux milk bottles
purchased a while ago from Michael's...

...and some wispy white flowers,
also fake...

So much for this decorator!
NOT!!

Are you lightening up your decor yet?
Thanks for coming by, friends.

Inspiration From a New Magazine: "Flea Market Outdoors"

Hello to all! I hope that you're having a great day.

It's pretty nasty today, cold and grey, with a slight mist coming down that never quite passed for the snow they predicted. Too bad for the snow. Ha!

We did have a beautiful day on Saturday, though. Earlier that day I did some grocery shopping and picked up the premier issue of a new magazine called "Flea Market Outdoors". I couldn't wait to read it while I sat down to lunch on the front porch, and of course, I tabbed the pages that I thought the most inspirational. I wanted to share a few photos of some of those pages with you, but didn't really want to be inside taking the photos on such a lovely day, so I decided to prop up the mag on the wicker settee on the porch and fire away.

Sorry I didn't post these earlier, but Mr. Perch had been up north for a few weeks taking care of some business, and he just came home Saturday night so I haven't had much blog time. If you love gardening and the outdoors as much as I do, this one is a definite must have!

After a long winter of looking at white and grey
art and decor, it feels good to look at some
pretty color combinations for a change.
This is actually a play house, but I see it as a
garden house...

Some crafting inspiration below.
I love these garden totems.
I have one that I purchased, but keep saying
that I am going to make one myself.
I dream more than I do!...

Some treasures for the garden shed...

Old quilts used on the porch.
Remind me to share on a future post
my new love of vintage quilt pieces!...

What's a garden without some salvage?...

Porch beauty...

...and more of it!...

Garden shed glory...

...not to mention gazebo love.
Hmmm, we do need to spruce up
ours this summer!...

And more lovely color combinations.
This one on a porch...

And this one on a deck.
Speaking of decks!...

In my next post I'll share the little treasure we just bought!

Many thanks for coming by today!

Daphne's Diary...

Greetings from the frozen Perch! It's still really cold here, and my "girl cave" is on a separate heating system, so I haven't spent too much time up here these past few days.

But the other day I went to Barnes and Noble at the mall and poked around a little, finding a magazine that I had never seen before (I think that this one was only the second issue). It is called Daphnes's Diary and it's published in the UK. What a load of inspiration in this magazine! This one happens to be the Christmas issue, as I guess it takes a little time to arrive stateside, but well worth the wait, and I am looking forward to seeing the next one. Here are a few photos. Click to enlarge so you can take in all the beauty!!

The cover...

Poems, and vintage postcards that you can remove and use...

Another poem...

Baking...

The history of chocolate...

Jewelry-making...

Things to make...

Home decor...

More pretty things to make...

...and some materials to use in paper art...

Are you on the way to your bookstore yet? Have a great evening!!

Inspiration from Romantic Homes magazine...

Good morning!

While we were away, I received my December copy of Romantic Homes magazine, which was chock full of holiday decorating eye candy. Since I need to make this a quick post, here is a glimpse of what you will see in this issue. I wish I had a little more time to sit down and read the whole thing today!

I'm sorry that these photos are a little dark, but I think you get the idea!

Have a wonderful day.
