The Wren's Nest: Saying Hello

We named her after the Carolina Wren.
The abandoned little nest in the picture above was
discovered while we were removing some
overgrown bushes in the back of our porch.
The nest had likely been there for awhile,
and it was so fitting that we found it.
We had considered a few different names
for our new (old) mountain getaway cottage,
but the discovery of this tiny nest
"sealed" the deal.

Now you can probably guess why
we sold Birdsong Cottage.

Birdsong Cottage: Saying Goodbye

There is an expression that states that all good things must come to an end. And so it is with our beloved little mountain getaway, Birdsong Cottage. You may realize that I have mentioned her very little this summer, other than to say that we were away, or were in the mountains. The truth of the matter is that we have sold her, and her new owner is moving in this weekend.

Last week we moved out our furniture
and tidied her up.
She looked so sad and lonely.
But not for long...

Before we left earlier this week,
we supervised the installation of a brand new storage
shed that was purchased by the new owner.
I think that she will love Birdsong
as much as we did.
I hope she will, anyway...

It was hard to say goodbye after we put so much into her
over the past two years.
But where one door closes, another one opens,
and one has opened for us.

I hope that you are having a great weekend!

Reflections: Three Years of Blogging

"Reflect on your present blessings,
of which every man has many..."
-Charles Dickens

My blessing is you,
the readers who have supported me
during the past three years.

If you haven't been with me from
the beginning,
here is my first post.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog,
posting comments,
and in general,
putting up with my ramblings about
basically nothing!

Have a great day!

Playing with some fabrics and laces...

Hello to all! I had a few minutes today to play with some fabrics and laces, arranging them loosely on my work table. I purchased these images a few months ago as an Etsy download, and decided to finally print them out on fabric and do something pretty with them.

This one is not yet even pinned together.
I'm still not sure what direction I will take...

This digital image is so beautiful
with this little girl.
Black, ecru, and beige fancies
will work on this one...

This little beauty is incorporated within
brown and ecru
and will likely incorporate some vintage
pearl buttons.
I have pinned it together,
but I still may change it or add more...

I guess their completion will have to wait until
later in this month.
I will not likely be posting much for the next couple of weeks,
as we will be busy in the mountains for most of the remainder of August.
Just to let you know that I am thinking of you!

Do you have any unfinished projects on your work table?

A great class to take, and a beach photo to share...

Hello friends!

I thought that you might be interested an on-line class that is being taught by Suzy Quaife, "Peaceful and Pondering Fabric Lace Book". If you are not familiar with Suzy's beautiful fabric and lace books and collages, check out her blog and her class here. She is also holding a giveaway to include some of the beautiful materials that she uses in her stunning artwork. I have already signed up, and look forward to September 14th, when the class begins.

******************************************

I may be absent from this blog for most of this month, since this summer has taken a "busy" turn. More on that later, but hopefully September will be a little less hectic. In the meantime, this late part of the summer seems to be portrayed in this lovely old photo which I recently purchased. Don't you just love Grandmother with her daughters and grandchildren having a nice day at the beach? I am not sure where it was taken, and wonder if the flags they are holding are country flags, or for something else. If you know, please drop me a comment. If you wish, save this photo to your computer and use it in some artwork!

Together by the sea
is our favorite place to be...

Do you have a favorite place?

Have a splendid evening!
