If you read this blog, you know that I lived in Florida for quite a few years before moving up here to North Carolina. It was twenty-eight years, to be exact. And never for a moment when I lived down there would I have entertained the idea of having plastic flamingos in my garden. ANYWHERE in my garden!
Well, a couple of years ago I saw some plastic flamingos for sale in Lowe's, and for some strange reason I just had to have them. I can't explain why. Mr. Perch thought I had tipped, and suggested a nice garden statue instead. We already have some, I said. So he met me halfway and said that as long as I put them somewhere that they could not be seen from the road, I could go ahead. Fair enough, I said. So, they went over to the front side of the shed that is not visible from the road. At least I was able to love them.
Well, the next year I decided to purchase about 100 different varieties of daylilies, not that I like daylilies or anything :~)...and one was named "Flamingo Fantasy". The photo in the catalog made it look like it was exactly the same color as those plastic flamingos. So, I bought one, and it is blooming right now. I think that I may have showed you these already, but that area of the garden has filled in a lot over the past year, so I will share it again.
What do you think? Is this daylily aptly named? Would you expect anything less from a woman who has a daylily named Wiggle Worm?
Have a "blooming" good day!
Beautiful colours!. I have23 gnomes in my garden. They are dressed in the football strips of West Ham FC and Norwich City FC. DH supports WH and my team is NC, so we do have some sort of' 'excuse' to have them there. Our neighbours have declared them to be 'naff'. Cheek! They have cattle and sheep skulls nailed to their fence, and a zombie crawling out of a grave. I think we've started a competition to see who can be the 'naffest', My latest offering will be a mini Stone Henge. lol
ReplyDeleteHello Lesley! It's great to hear from you. Hope all is well. I think all of your garden decor sounds fun! We have some gnomes also, as my husband loves them. We used to have a smiley face painted on the satellite dish for the TV, but after a while that had to go, as we ended up having the satellite moved to the roof. (It wasn't my kind of garden decor, but hubby thought it was stunning).
DeleteGorgeous colored daylilies! I like your pink flamingos, too! You need little indulgences. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Carmen! Yes, we certainly do. Hope you're well!
Deletewhoops,I see I said we have 23 gnomes. I meant to say 2 (in the football strips plus one more that MIL gave us) so it has to be on show. See, we're not as 'naff' as you thought. lol
ReplyDeleteWe have four, I think, so we are obviously more 'naff' than you are!!! XO
